City Council's recent land use vote has significant implications for urban agriculture, particularly in supporting local gardening initiatives that enhance food security. Additionally, the council's decision aligns with strategies for heat mitigation through the promotion of agroforestry practices within the community.

Del Monte Village Garden (DMVG) is a neighborhood-led organization formed by residents of Del Monte Village, part of the greater Maryvale neighborhood. Our mission is grounded in the belief that it takes a village; the DMVG brings neighbors together to engage in local gardening initiatives, grow food, share cultural and generational knowledge, and build a resilient, connected community. By promoting urban agriculture, we aim to create a safe, welcoming, and beautiful space where people of all ages and backgrounds can learn, grow, and thrive. Through our efforts in agroforestry and community gardening, we strive to enhance food security and foster neighborhood connections while providing educational opportunities for everyone. We believe this community-led project will become a vital asset in one of the hottest, most densely populated, and underserved communities in Phoenix, contributing to heat mitigation and overall community resilience.
